Monday Sector Laggards: Energy, Services

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Monday, shares of Energy companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 1.7% loss. Within that group, Marathon Oil Corp. (NYSE: MRO) and Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 7.5% and 3.9%, respectively. Among energy ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLE), which is down 1.1% on the day, and up 16.91% year-to-date. Marathon Oil Corp., meanwhile, is up 24.62% year-to-date, and Transocean Ltd., is down 18.58% year-to-date. Combined, MRO and RIG make up approximately 1.4% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next worst performing sector is the Services sector, showing a 0.2% loss. Among large Services stocks, Viacom Inc (NASD: VIAB) and Urban Outfitters, Inc. (NASD: URBN) are the most notable, showing a loss of 3.8% and 3.0%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF (IYC), which is flat on the day in midday trading, and up 3.64% on a year-to-date basis. Viacom Inc, meanwhile, is up 3.55% year-to-date, and Urban Outfitters, Inc. is up 61.19% year-to-date. Combined, VIAB and URBN make up approximately 0.6% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
