Robert L Evans retires as Executive Chairman of Churchill Downs

downsUS race track operator Churchill Downs has announced that Robert L Evans will retire as Executive Chairman of the company.

Churchill Downs continues the restructure of its governance team, which saw the appointment of William C. Carstanjen as CEO in August 2014. Following a transition/learning period under Evans, Carstanjen will now take over full leadership responsibilities.

Evans retires from Churchill Downs day to day operations following nine years’ service. As Chairman he played  a lead role in re-vamping the operators race track venues, operations and services by leading a $1.8 billion investment initiative.

Churchill Downs governance confirmed that’s Evans would continue to advise the company as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board.

New CEO  Carstanjen takes leadership of Churchill Downs as the company enters new markets. In November 2014, Churchill Downs acquired leading social games developer Big Fish Games INC for $850 million.

Churchill Downs governance have outlined that future growth for the company will be driven by new digital verticals, which will create synergies with its racing services.
