There were 55 youth entries in the preliminary qualifying rounds last Saturday at SGL, including 30 in the handicap division and 25 in the scratch tourney. The top 16 from each division moved on to the finals on Sunday. Everyone bowled three games and the top eight moved on to match play.
Four awards were given out for Saturday, highlighted by Helena's Mari Pizzini, who fired a 298 game. Pizzini just missed the second perfect 300 of her young career by two pins, rolling 12 consecutive strikes before throwing an 8 on her last ball. The Helena teenager now owns two (300, 298) of the top three games bowled by a Capital City resident, along with Teri Kellogg's 300 from 2000.
