Want to Order a Cold Beer at Starbucks in Algonquin? It Could Happen

The coffee shop chain is asking the village for a liquor license so it can sell alcoholic beverages. Do you think that's a good idea?

Soon, a double-shot, iced-shaken espresso might not be the strongest drink you can order at Starbucks in Algonquin. The national coffee shop chain wants a liquor license from the village so it can sell wine and beer at its 790 S. Randall Road location, according to a Daily Herald report.

Starbucks reps went before the Village Board’s committee of the whole meeting Tuesday to discuss their plans, the report stated. The alcohol offerings are part of the company’s new Evenings Menu initiative, which also includes small plate food items, such as truffle macaroni and cheese, the report added.

While the board approved adding the number of liquor licenses in the village Tuesday, officials will still have time to evaluate whether or not they want to give Starbucks one, the report stated. Company reps still need to present their plan before the liquor commission next month, the report added.
