Homebuilding company Lennar has launched a tree-planting initiative with six elementary schools in Mecklenburg, York, Iredell, Gaston and Union counties.
The company will donate $100 per home sold through the end of September to pay for planting trees on the schools’ campuses.
Schools participating in the program are Palisades Park Elementary in Mecklenburg County, Doby’s Bridge Elementary in York County, Woodland Heights Elementary in Iredell County, Waxhaw Elementary in Union County, and Page Primary School and W.A. Bess Elementary in Gaston County.
“Tree planting has so many benefits for the environment and the Elemen-Tree program is going to go even beyond that,” said Lennar Charlotte Division President Jon Hardy. “For students, this is going to allow them to take ownership of their surroundings, learn about nature and beautify their campuses.”
Lennar Charlotte has several projects in the area, including Berewick Aberdeen, a development within the 1,200-acre master-planned community of Berewick on Steele Creek Road in southwest Charlotte. The company has also targeted northern Lancaster County, South Carolina, with its Springfield development in northern Fort Mill and its Indian Land subdivisions, the Carolina Reserve and Retreat at Rayfield. The company has 16 developments in the Charlotte area.
