Prowlers on the roof of a check cashing business botched their burglary attempt when they tripped an alarm, alerting police to their presence.

Officers were inside the Western Union checking to see if anyone was inside when they heard something overhead.

"While officers were investigating the reported burglary, they heard movement on the roof of this complex," Lt. Brian Makofske said. "We're not sure if they actually made it into the building. We know that they were trying to tunnel into the building from the roof."

Officers set up a perimeter and called firefighters to help them get the suspects down, but they managed to slip away before they could reach him.

The would-be thieves got away empty-handed. No suspect description has been released.

Western Union is located at the intersection of Murray and Galley.
