W. Anthony Vernon, former CEO of Kraft Foods, is joining the board of directors for Denver-based WhiteWave Foods.
Vernon’s appointment is effective Jan. 1.
WhiteWave Foods officials lauded Vernon’s experience in the consumer goods industry. He became president of Kraft Foods North America in 2009 and Kraft CEO in 2012, a position he held until 2014. Prior to working at Kraft, he ran several business units at Johnson & Johnson in his 23-year career there.
“Tony’s qualifications and leadership experience further strengthen the board’s ability to oversee WhiteWave’s growth initiatives and provide additional perspective that will serve our company and shareholders well,” said Gregg Engles, WhiteWave chairman and CEO, in a statement.
WhieWave’s brands include Horizon Organic, Silk soymilk and International Delight. Its directors include veterans of The Coca-Cola Co., Campbell Soup Co., GE, Kinko’s Inc. and Walmart.
