EVANSTON – Despite the fact that DePaul basketball will leave for a new home starting in the fall of 2017, Allstate Arena will still play home to a college basketball team for one more season.

On Tuesday Northwestern announced that they will be playing their men’s basketball games during the 2017-2018 season at the venue in Rosemont as they take a full year to renovate Welsh Ryan Arena.

A multi-million dollar renovation is taking place at the arena following the conclusion of the Wildcats’ upcoming basketball season in the spring of 2017 and will not be completed till the fall of 2018. The arena came open since DePaul, the current college basketball tenants of the Rosemont arena, move into their new stadium at McCormick Place in the Fall of 2017.

“The venue has a rich college basketball tradition in the Chicagoland area. I know that our fans will enjoy cheering on our team at Allstate Arena during what will be an exciting season,” said Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips in a statement released by the university.
