Sensex jumps over 200 points to regain 26,000-level; Nifty tops 7,900-mark

The NSE Nifty was also trading up at 62.65 points or 0.80 percent at 7,905.40.

Mumbai: Reversing early losses, the benchmark BSE Sensex surged over 203 points in afternoon trade Friday to go past the 26,000-level, while the NSE Nifty topped 7,900-mark on renewed buying in oil&gas, IT and Teck stocks amid mixed Asian cues.

Gains were also seen in shares of power, consumer durables, auto, realty and metal sectors.

Moreover, the market breadth indicating the overall health was also positive.

The 30-share index resumed higher at 25,856.13 and hovered in a range of 25,998.00 and 25,769.81 before quoting 26045.36, a rise of 203.44 points or 0.79 percent.

The index had risen by 359.40 points in the last session.

The NSE Nifty was also trading up at 62.65 points or 0.80 percent at 7,905.40.

Major BSE gainers were GAIL (8.03 percent), Wipro (2.77 percent), M&M (2.21 percent), Dr Reddy's (2.03 percent), TCS (1.72 percent), Hero Moto Corp (1.34 percent), (Maruti (1.25 percent) and Bajaj Auto (1.13 percent).

Meanwhile, foreign investors sold shares worth Rs 343.18 crore yesterday, as per provisional data.

In overseas markets, Asia was trading on a mixed note as investors grappled with the prospects of higher US borrowing costs and slower global economic growth.

The US stock indexes finished barely changed yesterday after weakness in the healthcare and energy sectors hit gains.
