Texas (KVII) — The number of Xcel Energy customers still without power in the Texas Panhandle has dropped to around 3,000. That number is down from around 9,000 customers without power as of Tuesday morning.
According to Xcel, the total amount of customers affected by last weekend's ice storm is around 58,000.
Xcel said that as of around noon on Wednesday, the Borger district had about 842 customers without power, Pampa district had 132, Perryton had 1,184 and in Northeastern Panhandle, which includes Darrouzett, Follett, Higgins and Lipscomb, there were still about 1,081 customers without power.
Schools in the Northeastern Panhandle, where towns have been most affected by the aftermath of the storm, have been closed all week due to the power outage.
More than 600 people are working on restoration effects in the northeast, Xcel said. This is not counting tree trimming crews and support staff from Amarillo and area service centers.
