English Touring Theatre Announces its New Chair of the Board - Robert Delamere

Today English Touring Theatre announced Robert Delamere as its new Chair of the Board. He begins the role with immediate effect and takes over from Greg Parston who steps down after five years as Chair.
On accepting the role, Robert Delamere said, "It's a privilege to take over as chairman of English Touring Theatre at such an exciting time for the company. With the appointment of Richard Twyman the company has an Artistic Director of exceptional talent and capacity, whose work in the theatre has become a hallmark of innovation and internationalism. His vision for ETT is both an intelligent continuity and a brilliant step into the future. I look forward to working with him and building on the exemplary work of both Rachel Tackley and former chairman, Greg Parston who have left the company in such good health.'
Richard Twyman, Artistic Director of ETT, said today 'I am thrilled that Robert Delamere has been appointed Chair of English Touring Theatre. Robert is an exceptional creative leader - a true innovator whose work across multiple arts disciplines has been defined by his dynamic energy, artistic vision and grace. Outgoing Chairman Greg Parston commented, 'Robert Delamere takes over as chair of English Touring Theatre as it moves on to a new chapter in its own life. The timing could not be better with the recent appointment of Richard Twyman as Artistic Director, after eight years of Rachel Tackley's creative direction. Robert brings great knowledge of the industry - both traditional and pioneering - and strong commitment to good governance. ETT will continue to grow as the nation's leading touring company under the direction of this new leadership duo.'
Robert Delamere currently works with Slams Films as an Executive Producer developing projects across film and television. In May 2016 he was announced by Creative Review as one of the UK's top 50 Creative Leaders. He is also the co-founder of Digital Theatre and Digital Theatre Plus, respectively the world's leading performing arts and arts education platforms, for which he has directed all 30 of their live captures of theatre and opera productions, including The Old Vic's The Crucible, the Almeida's Ghosts, David Tennant and Catherine Tate in Much Ado About Nothing, Glasgow Citizens/Tricycle Theatre production of Sam Shepard's True West and most recently Sherman Theatre's Iphigenia In Splott. He continues to work as a consultant Creative Director for Digital Theatre and serves on the board.
As a critically acclaimed theatre, television director and opera director, Delamere has directed over 40 productions including Accidental Death of an Anarchist and In A Little World of Our Own (Donmar Warehouse), The Force of Change (Royal Court), In Arabia We'd All Be Kings (Hampstead Theatre), Shoot The Crow (Trafalgar Studios) and A Russian in the Woods (RSC).
Delamere was formerly Creative Director of Amnesty International where he oversaw all their media output and cultural events including the 60th UNDHR anniversary project, where 30 of the world's leading writers were commissioned to produce short stories based on the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, subsequently published under the title 'Freedom'. He is a patron of the National Youth Arts Trust.
English Touring Theatre is one of the UK's most successful and exciting production companies, widely regarded as England's national theatre of touring. The company works with leading artists to stage an eclectic mix of new and classic work for audiences throughout the UK and overseas; theatre that is thrilling, popular and, above all, entertaining. Current Productions include Terence Rattigan's French without Tears, a co-production with the Orange Tree Theatre, and Lady Chatterley's Lover, a co-production with Sheffield Theatres, which both tour from September. Next year, they produce the first tour of Jessica Swale's Olivier Award winning play Nell Gwynn, starring Laura Pitt-Pulford, and the world première of Sandi Toksvig's comedy Silver Lining.
