HOUSTON, Nov. 14 -- A Dallas independent operator said it will begin drilling more wells right away near a Jurassic oil and gas discovery in Hopkins County.

The discovery well, Hopkins Spindletop-1, flowed 744 b/d of oil and 600 Mcfd of gas on a 24-hr test through a 12/64 in. choke, said private Santa Fe Petroleum LLC, Dallas. It said initial reserve estimates are for recovering 600,000 bbl of oil and as much as 5 bcf of gas per well. Santa Fe affiliate Textron Southwest LLC will drill and operate the field.

Santa Fe said it found a 50-ft oil column at the top of Smackover at 9,600 ft. The column has better than 24% porosity and oil saturation calculated at more than 95%.
