Liverpool have been handed a massive transfer blow as top target Marco Reus is ruled out for six month with serious injury.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus faces time out of action after suffering a partial tear of his cruciate knee ligament.

The Germany international was forced off at half-time during his side's DFB-Pokal victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp has been fan of Reus since he brought the starlet to Dortmund in 2012 for £12m.

Reds supporters have chanted "Sign Reus" at times this season with a summer move on the cards this summer - with Chelsea and Real Madrid also ready to fight for his signature.

But Dortmund confirmed the damage of his injury on Monday with a statement on the club's website saying: "Further examinations will be conducted over the next few days to determine what course of treatment is required.

"With this in mind, Borussia Dortmund will not at this stage make any precise estimations as to the possible length of the player's absence.

"BVB wish their DFB-Pokal hero the speediest possible recovery."
