Real-time analytics just ‘hype technology’? | #BigDataNYC
“People reach for real-time and streaming engines where it’s not really important for the use case,” according to Ron Bodkin, founder and president of Think Big, A Teradata Corp. company. Referring to the current trend toward real-time, Bodkin called it “hype technology” and says that many times companies think they need true real-time analytics when they do not.
“Sometimes getting data even early the next morning is real time,” Bodkin told Dave Vellante of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, in an interview at BigDataNYC 2015 during Strata + Hadoop world.
Bodkin and Vellante also discussed how Think Big’s ability to drive solutions in the Big Data space is beneficial to its new parent company Teradata. “We brought a complementary part of the picture,” Bodkin told theCUBE.
Listing many use-case scenarios – from medical device manufacturers to media companies – where Think Big’s Big Data expertise has helped companies access deeper insight into customer behavior patterns, Bodkin said, “When we started Think Big, I didn’t anticipate being so big!”
