American Express is using modern technology to prepare for the 21st U.S. Open.

The credit card company hosted a hydro-interactive tennis experience named Rally on the River on Wednesday night to celebrate the past, present and future of tennis.

Several tennis all-stars and celebrities were present at the event including Mariah Sharapova, John Isner and Monica Puig. Comedian and actor Kevin James and DJs Chromeo were also present.

The hydro-interactive display was projected onto a massive 40X60-foot wall of cascading water. The images projected onto the water were interactive and responsive to tennis balls and rackets, which were designed to translate in real-time.

Fans at the event watched Sharapova, James, Puig and Isner exchange a few swings. A few selected fans also participated in the event.

Earlier this month, AMEX also partnered with Sharapova to create a virtual reality experience called “You Vs. Sharapova” that allows fans to go one-on-one against her 100-mph serves. The VR experience will be exclusively available to fans who attend the 21st U.S. Open tournament in New York City.

The U.S. Open will take place Aug. 31 to Sept. 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
