Net income and sales rose at Fort Lauderdale-based National Beverage for the three months that ended Aug. 1, which is the first quarter of the company’s new fiscal year.

Net Sales grew to $185.4 million, up from $174.6 million a year earlier, National Beverage said in a quarterly statement.

Net Income rose from $15.4 million in August 2014 to $17.1 million a year later.

Earnings per share increased from 33 cents to 37 cents, the company reported.

It was the “finest first quarter in the company’s history,” National Beverage said in a statement.

“The super-informed consumer” buying National Beverage products, including flavored or nutritionally enhanced waters, helped make it a strong quarter, said Nick A. Caporella, chairman and CEO. The company also makes and distributes juices, tea, lemonade, energy drinks as well as Shasta, Faygo and Ritz soft drinks.

“Our first quarter sends a clear signal of what is ahead,” Caporella said in a written release.
