General Mills announced last Monday that it will pull back roughly 1.8 million boxes of gluten-free Cheerios that may have contained gluten.

According to the company's official website, an incident at their production facility in Lodi, California may have allowed wheat flour to be added into the cereals that are supposed to be gluten-free.

As a result of the accident, the labeled gluten-free original and Honey Nut Cheerios produced on certain dates may contain the ingredient, which can cause health issues in those who have wheat allergies or are intolerant to gluten.

A General Mills spokeswoman said that illness reports linked to the incident have been reported online, according to ABC News. In addition, two complaints were reported directly to the company.

"We want to reassure you that this was an isolated incident and we have implemented a solution to ensure that this will not happen again," a statement from General Mills reads.

General Mills asks its customers to look into their Cheerios boxes if they have the affected products.

Those boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios with code dates from July 12 to 25 of this year and have the letters "LD" at the end are part of the recall.

For the original Cheerios, the affected products are those belonging to July 14 to 17 code dates.

People known to be gluten-sensitive should avoid the recalled products. Otherwise, the affected original and Honey Nut Cheerios are safe to eat.

Original and Honey Nut Cheerios manufactured at the company's other production facilities or those produced at different dates are not affected.

According to the press release from General Mills, other brands of Cheerios are also not part of the recall.
