According to the Weyerhaeuser Co. website, when Frederick Weyerhaeuser founded his company 115 years ago, he said: "This is not for us, nor for our children, but for our grandchildren."

Frederick Weyerhaeuser, considered the eighth-richest American of all time, appears not to have considered the grandchildren of most Columbia County residents, who are now being required to obtain an access permit to recreate — hunt, fish, hike, pick mushrooms, etc. — on any of the Weyerhaeuser-owned forestlands in Columbia County or possibly face a criminal trespassing charge.
