A Cincinnati man who pleaded guilty to firing shots at Great American Tower in 2015 will spend nearly four years in prison.

Rayshawn Herald, 23, was sentenced Tuesday to 46 months. He also will be on supervised probation for three years after his release.

Cincinnati police zoned in on Herald after gunshots shattered windows and caused other damage at Great American Tower at Queen City Square on four separate occasions within one week.

The January 2015 shootings were after business hours. No one was hurt. The suspect wasn't identified until earlier this year.

On March 16, a federal grand jury indicted Herald on one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Officials said he had a loaded 9-millimeter after having been convicted for trafficking in cocaine and having weapons while under disability.

Man linked to Great American Tower shooting pleads guilty

Investigators linked Herald to the Great American Tower shooting along with a 2015 Metro bus shooting through the use of the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN).

Police say sophisticated technology on-loan from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives helped connect Herald with the skyscraper shooting.

"What it allows us to do is to compare cartridges from different crime scenes and compare them to see if there's a link between those different shooting scenes," said Firearms Section Supervisor Kevin Lattyak.

Police compared casing from two different shootings and were able to connect Herald to both crimes.
