Frontier Airlines to add $39 flights from Detroit Metro to Orlando

DETROIT - Starting Nov. 18, Frontier Airlines will begin offering daily non-stop flights from Detroit Metropolitan Airport to Orlando.

The Detroit News reports that the $39, one-way flights on select dates will seat 180. They'll fly out from Detroit once a day.

"We are excited to offer even more low-fare service for Detroit with this new flight," Daniel Shurz, chief commercial officer for Frontier, told the News.

Orlando is reportedly one of the most preferred destinations from Detroit, according to the report.

Typically, tickets from Detroit to Orlando run about $135.

According to the News, daily numbers to Orlando from Detroit have fallen slightly since 2010.

Airport officials hope the new deal from Frontier will pick the numbers up again.

A recent Time Magazine article compared Frontier Airlines to Spirit Airlines, calling the company another low-cost airline that skimps on leg room and other amenities to offer cheaper service.

According to Time, "Frontier's growth and enhanced profits have come at the sake of customer satisfaction and the quality of the service. Delays plague almost a third of Frontier's flights, and the rate of customer complaints about the airline are second only behind...Spirit."

Fontier's main hub is in Denver.
