Baz Luhrmann is heading to television with his music-driven Netflix series The Get Down, a 1970s-era show about the early days of hip-hop.

The series stars Shameik Moore (Shaolin Fantastic), Jaden Smith (Dizzee Kipling), Justice Smith (Ezekiel “Books” Figuero), Herizen Guardiola (Mylene Cruz), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Cadillac), Skylan Brooks (Ra-Ra Kipling), Tremaine Brown Jr. (Boo Boo Kiping), Mamoudou Athie (Grandmaster Flash), Jimmy Smits (Francisco “Papa Fuerte” Cruz) and Giancarlo Esposito (Ramon Cruz).

The first six episodes premiere Friday, Aug. 12 on Netflix, with additional episodes airing in 2017.
