Travelers Cos. Inc. invested more than $22 million in charitable community initiatives in 2017 through programs aimed at academic and career support for underrepresented students, improving neighborhoods, and arts and culture initiatives.

The Travelers Foundation has invested more than $200 million through corporate giving over the past decade, the organization said Wednesday with the release of its annual community report.

“As a company, we care about ensuring opportunity, and we are able to increase our impact through our employees, who are genuinely passionate about supporting the communities where we do business,” said Marlene Ibsen, president of the Travelers Foundation and community relations vice president of Travelers.

Travelers employees logged more than 143,000 hours of volunteer time, a record for the insurance company, whose largest office is in Hartford.

The company also celebrated the 10th anniversary of its education program, Travelers EDGE — Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Employment — which has provided college scholarships to more than 400 underrepresented students.
