Crews broke ground less than a month ago on the 6,700 square foot facility. School administrators say the concrete pad is being prepared, footings have been poured and the wall panels are expected to arrive by March 1st. The $2.1 million high school storm shelter will be open to the community and will double as a gymnasium. Superintendent Jim Cummins says the shelter is apart of the bond issue that passed last April and he appreciates voters allowing the district to make improvements to the schools.

“I think the projects that we have completed, we’ve completed the elementary kitchen, our network infrastructure has been completely overhauled. I mean, the voters definitely made a difference in the future of the district,” said Jim Cummins, Seneca Schools Superintendent.

The new safe room at the high school is expected to be complete in October.
