Four tied for first-round lead in Mexico

Aaron Baddeley enjoyed a good first day at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, shooting a 6-under-par 65 to tie for the opening-round lead with Derek Fathauer, Justin Leonard and Shawn Stefani in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

The four leaders finished one shot ahead of a group that included Michael Thompson, D.J. Trahan and Charles Howell III.

The first round at El Camaleon Golf Club was suspended because of darkness with 21 players unable to complete the first round. They will return early Friday morning to finish before starting of the second round.

Wind and rain caused an earlier delay that suspended play for more than an hour.

Baddeley, who tied for fourth last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship to secure a spot in this week's field, made seven birdies and one bogey in the first round.

Baddeley finished outside the top 125 in the FedEx Cup Standings last season for the first time since 2007. He has three career wins on the PGA Tour but none since 2011.

The 43-year-old Leonard avoided a bogey on the opening 18 holes in a bid for his first win on tour since 2008. He is playing in just 12 events this year on an exemption.

"My game plan hasn't changed in 21 years and it's certainly not going to change between today and tomorrow," Leonard said.

Stefani's round was marked by a hot start, going 5 under after four holes with a birdie-birdie-birdie-eagle sequence. The lone bogey for Stefani, seeking his first tour victory, came on No. 9.

Fathauer, also in search of his first tour win, posted six birdies and no bogeys.

Thomas Aiken started the day with a hole-in-one on No. 10 and birdied the next two holes to get to 4 under, but his round fell apart and he was 5 over on his final three holes to slip back into the field with a 3-over 74.

Graeme McDowell had a tough start with a double bogey at the first hole but recovered with five straight birdies on Nos. 4-9 to wind up in a large group at 67.
