'Dear Santa' Sign, Dillards - A Dillards in Florida had a sign that caused commotion after it was spotted in the little girls' section.
What stirred controversy was the message itself, which seemed rather inappropriate to most mothers and people who saw it.
"Dear Santa, this year please give me a big fat bank account and a slim body. Please, don't mix those two up like you did last year. Thanks." It was posted by more than one person on Instagram and other social media.
The message caused a lot of discussion among grown people. They first complained about the store even having something like that at all.
Sally Stewart, a woman that read the sign, shared with WPTV the fact that she didn't agree at all with the content of the message. She stated a little girl should not be interested in a bank account or body image.
And she deeply supported the idea that the "Dear Santa" sign was not the kind of information that kids should learn or look up to in any way.
After that, Dr. Rachel Needle, a clinical psychiatrist, referred to the sign as a "shame for people of all ages."
Something interesting she said was that little children pick up on most things that they hear and see. Thus, having a message like the one in Dillards, basically says that a girl should want a lot of money and a great, "slim" figure.
Children shouldn't be said these things, and adults either, according to her. A mother and a daughter were also questioned and while giving their points of view, they pretty much had the same opinion.
The response from Dillards was not only to remove the sign of "Dear Santa" from the Florida store, but to be removed from all the Dillards stores in the country, so that the message will disappear completely.
