Voxx International’s EyeLock business has obtained a patent related to iris-based identification systems.

Hauppauge-based Voxx said the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued the firm U.S. patent No. 9,626,563, its 46th patent, covering mobility identity platforms.

The firm said the patent deals with evaluating acquired images in real-time to selecting those that “feature sufficiently exposed and in-focus irises.”

EyeLock CEO Jim Dimitrieus said the patent allows for a “fast and easy user experience” by selecting a limited number of images “with the best iris-related quality” as part of the identification process.

“Once the images are selected, our algorithms immediately create a template which is then used for matching and recognition,” he added, noting this is useful in mobile applications where image quality is often affected by motion, blurs and blinking.
