As GE Eyes Move from Fairfield, N.Y. Offers 4 Possible HQ Sites

General Electric already has its Management Development Institute in Westchester.

General Electric is eyeing sites in Westchester County as it contemplates leaving Connecticut for a more pro-business environment.

These sites are under consideration, according to The Journal News:

  • The PepsiCo site in Somers
  • The Gateway Center at 1 N. Lexington Ave. in downtown White Plains
  • The former Alexander Smith and Sons carpet factory on Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers
  • The MBIA headquarters on King Street in Armonk

GE’s Management Development Institute is already local--in Ossining.

Suitors have lined up for GE ever since CEO Jeff Immelt sent an email to the company’s Connecticut employees in June, notifying them that he has “assembled an exploratory team to look into the company’s options to relocate corporate HQ to another state with a more pro-business environment.”

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo visited the Fairfield headquarters July 30 on a recruiting trip.

This is one of several moves GE has made or contemplated recently.

The company announced this summer it would move production of turbines and generators to France, Hungary and China from Houston, where it can secure required export financing.

“Congress left us no choice when it failed to reauthorize the Ex-Im Bank this summer,” said said John Rice, Vice-Chairman, GE, in a press release detailing the loss of 500 U.S. jobs and the impact on the company’s U.S. suppliers.

In fact, GE ruled out moving to Dallas, according to Bloomberg Business, specifically because members of the Texas Congressional delegation helped the GOP fight against reauthorizing the U.S. Export-Import Bank.

General Electric is set to decide by the end of the year where it will call home.
