Energy Security and Freedom

If I Wanted to Plunge America Into Darkness and Despair

Tom Shepstone
Shepstone Management Company, Inc.

We’re changing our name; NaturalGasNOW is transitioning to Energy Security and Freedom. We’re also changing our location to:

energysecurityfreedom.substack.com

Our Sunday newsletter readers already know about this but let me bring the rest of you up to date. We have been reposting NaturalGasNOW material to a new site on Substack. The new site is Energy Security and Freedom and you can find it and subscribe for free at energysecurityfreedom.substack.com. We’ll soon accept paying subscriptions but you’ll always be able to get our written material for free, too, if you’d like.

Why are we changing the title? Because we don’t write strictly about natural gas, although that is our primary focus. We also post on other energy sources, the climate scam, free speech, foundations and corporatism that are destroying America and, of course, energy security and freedom in general. Energy Security and Freedom better encompasses what we already do, in other words, and doesn’t limit us to natural gas promotion, although it remains absolutely fundamental to us and all we do.

Why are we changing our location on the web? Because WordPress, the program we have used for our blog for a decade has become too buggy, nerdy and unreliable. Not a week goes by that we are not confronted by a new technical problem with WordPress and there are few places to go for help. Frankly, we’re just tired of dealing with plug-ins, SEO, widgets and the like. Substack is for those who just want to communicate and do it easily.

Substack is its own network of sorts and provides certain features such as automatically notifying subscribers of new posts. It’s simple and effective with a lot of opportunities for engagement. We’ll still promote our posts in the usual places but, as of October 1, we will discontinue our Sunday newsletter. We will also stop posting new material on NaturalGasNOW, although all the 6,100+ existing posts will remain on the site until we find a way to move them over or archive them someplace.

What does this mean for you? It means it’s time to sign up for Energy Security and Freedom. You can do so from within any post. Do it now!

Offshore Wind Projects Violate Marine Mammal Protection Act?

Offshore Wind Projects Violate Marine Mammal Protection Act?

David Wojick, PhD
Journalist and Independent Policy Analyst

 …

[Editor’s Note: The offshore wind debacle continues as government ignores project developers who may well be violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act and killing whales.]

New evidence says that offshore wind sonar surveys may have committed hundreds of thousands of violations of the MMPA, each potentially subject to tens of thousands of dollars in fines. The potential penalty total is in the billions. Moreover these incredible violations appear to be deliberate.

These astonishingly bad findings flow from research by the Save the Right Whales Coalition (SRWC). It is a bit technical but here is a simple summary.

Electricity Cannot Be A Matter of Dogma or Wishful Thinking!

Electricity Cannot Be A Matter of Dogma or Wishful Thinking!

Electricity is a miracle, but it cannot be allowed to become a matter of dogma or wishful thinking by the naive, the compromised or those who would be dictators.

Our friends at the CO2 Coalition have shared with us a letter to the editor by Dr. Euan Mearns of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is superb in outlining the very practical problems with attempting to transition from traditional sources of fuel for producing electricity to supposed green energy sources. The letter is reposted below with some minor edits of spelling to conform to American usage and breaking up of longer paragraphs to make the document more easily readable.

Poll: Only 4% of NY Puts Environmental Threats at the Top

Poll: Only 4% of NY Puts Environmental Threats at the Top

NIMBYismRoger Caiazza (on the subject of)
Independent Researcher and Publisher,
Pragmatic Environmentalist of New York

[Editor’s Note: Net zero hits rock bottom as stunning Sienna College poll shows only 4% of New Yorkers agree environment threats should be the primary concern of the state.]

A recent Siena College poll found that respondents thought that the cost of living in New York is the top issue for Governor Hochul and the Legislature to address and that threats to the state’s environments was a primary concern for only 4% of the respondents.  This post argues that implementation of New York’s Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (Climate Act) is inconsistent with the concerns expressed in the poll.

I have followed the Climate Act since it was first proposed, submitted comments on the Climate Act implementation plan, and have written over 350 articles about New York’s net-zero transition.  I have devoted a lot of time to the Climate Act because I believe the ambitions for a zero-emissions economy embodied in the Climate Act outstrip available renewable technology such that the net-zero transition will do more harm than good by increasing costs unacceptably, threatening electric system reliability, and have major unintended environmental impacts.  The opinions expressed in this post do not reflect the position of any of my previous employers or any other company I have been associated with, these comments are mine alone.

Wind Debacles Drive Northeast Blowhards to Beg Biden

Wind Debacles Drive Northeast Blowhards to Beg Biden

David Wojick, PhD

 …

[Editor’s Note: Six blowhard governors from the Northeast who are stuck with offshore wind debacles are begging Joe Biden for our money to rescue themselves from their bragging.]

Six Atlantic shore Governors are begging the Feds to bail them out of a huge looming offshore wind cost overrun. They sent Biden a joint letter asking for a list of relief measures ranging from tax breaks to revenue sharing.

The outcome is far from clear but my guess is the largess is unlikely to appear, especially given the ongoing federal budget battles. Maybe later. However most of the requests also likely require major regulatory changes, which could take years. They might even take legislation which could be never.
