STRONGSVILLE, Ohio -- Feel like spending a summer day popping wheelies at the skatepark?
Zumiez, a new skateboard shop inside SouthPark Mall, can help. The store offers colorful custom skateboards, and clothing designed for a skating lifestyle.
"We have people who will hook you up, because they know skating culture," Manager Max Garfinkel said.
He's been skating since he was 4 and said he still picks up his board most days.
Customers can design their own skateboards and pick from dozens of patterned bases that line a wall at the back of the store. Skaters can also peruse display cases filled wheels and other skate parts.
The new store created 22 part-time jobs and two full-time positions.
Zumiez started in 1978 in Seattle and now runs stores across the United States and Canada. The Strongsville location is the second Northeast Ohio shop for the chain -- after Summit Mall in Akron.
Skateboards cost between $100 and $250.
