Many Xperia fans are waiting for Sony to finally come out with the next iteration of its Xperia smartphone flagship, the Xperia Z5. Although Sony has yet to comment on the many rumors and speculations about the device, the company did confirm that it will announce a new "smartphone with greater focus" next week, at this year's IFA event in Berlin.

While Sony did not name the smartphone itself, many observers are expecting that it will be the Xperia Z5, possibly together with a new Xperia Z5 Compact.

Aside from the announcement, Sony did not give out any detail at all. However, some enterprising fans have found leaked images purporting to be the soon-to-be-unveiled Xperia Z5.

According to observer website XperiaBlog, a Sony Mobile social media channel inadvertently showed some press images of the upcoming handset, but the images have since been taken down. However, XperiaBlog managed to take a screengrab of the images.

If the alleged leaks are to be believed, one of the most noted features of the upcoming Xperia Z5 – the same as previous iterations of Sony's flagship smartphone – is its powerful camera. The upcoming handset will have a 1/2.3-inch 23-MP Exmor RS camera. Judging from the shooter specs, the camera will be able to take clear and crisp images because of its six-lens system.

The leaked images also show the upcoming Xperia Z5 sporting a more rounded build than its predecessor, and is said to be made available in at least three colors – white, gold, and dark turquoise.

As for the specs, other rumors suggest the Xperia Z5 will be released with a specs sheet much like the previous Z3+, with a 5.2-inch display, an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, and at least 3 GB of RAM. The Z5 will also feature an IP6X rating, making it dust-proof and water-proof, which is a staple feature of some previous Sony flagships.
