Dow Chemical Earnings Projected to Increase

Wall Street is optimistic about Dow Chemical, which is slated to report its second quarter results on Thursday, July 23, 2015. Analysts project a profit of 80 cents a share, a rise from 74 cents per share a year ago.

The consensus estimate has dipped over the past month, from 81 cents, but it's still up from the consensus estimate of 73 cents three months ago. Analysts are expecting earnings of $3.05 per share for the fiscal year. Analysts project revenue to fall 13% year-over-year to $12.94 billion for the quarter, after being $14.92 billion a year ago. For the year, revenue is projected to roll in at $51.70 billion.

Revenue has been falling the past two quarters. In the first quarter, revenue declined 17% to $12.37 billion from the year earlier quarter. In the fourth quarter, the figure fell less than a percent.

The company has been profitable for the last eight quarters, and for the last four, profit has risen year-over-year by an average of 2%. The largest gain for the company was seen in the most recent quarter, when net income swelled by 53%.

Dow Chemical produces chemicals, plastic materials, agricultural, advanced materials, and other products and services, including insurance. PolyOne Corporation, also in the chemicals - plastics and rubber industry, will report earnings on Monday, July 27, 2015. Analysts are expecting earnings of 58 cents per share for PolyOne, down 14% from last year's earnings of 51 cents per share. Other companies in the chemicals - plastics and rubber industry with upcoming earnings release dates include: Huntsman, Ashland and Westlake Chemical.
