Premier League outfit Manchester United will attempt to launch a January transfer for Lucas Biglia after turning down a contract offer from Lazio.

The Biancocelesti looked to extend the 29-year-old’s contract by offering him €2.4 million per season for the next five years, however, the offer short of the player’s hopes of a  €3 million salary per year.

Although Lazio are hoping to make an improved offer in the coming weeks, the Daily Express reports that Manchester United are monitoring the situation closely, and could potentially make a January swoop for the Argentine.

Biglia’s current deal in the Serie A runs out in 2017, and it is believed that, should Lazio be unable to convince Biglia to stay, they could resort of selling him in the winter transfer window.

The Old Trafford outfit were also rumoured to have been interested in acquiring the player, but were deterred by the club’s €24 million valuation, and as such, worked on signing Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin instead.

Biglia has made 53 Serie A appearances for Lazio since his move from Anderlecht in 2013, and has scored on five occasions.
