A female driver in a suspected stolen car led authorities on a high-speed chase Wednesday before crashing at a 91 freeway off-ramp.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the off-ramp on Beach Boulevard in Buena Park. The alert lasted about two hours before being lifted.
The chase started in Anaheim, when shortly before 2 p.m., Anaheim police received a LoJack bulletin about a car being stolen, according to CHP Capt. Don Goodbrand.
Anaheim officers found the car and tried to pull it over, but the female driver took off at a high speed, police said. The car, a Subaru Impreza, got on the I-5 at Brookhurst Street then transitioned to the westbound 91. The officer lost sight of the car, which was still going at high speeds, before it exited at Beach Boulevard.
Goodbrand said when the stolen car exited the freeway and approached the intersection, it swerved and crashed into the back of a Chevrolet Suburban that was stopped at the traffic light.
The first crash caused a chain reaction and the Suburban hit a Toyota Corolla, which then hit a freeway service truck. Both of those vehicles were also waiting at the stop light.
The driver of the stolen car was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to CHP officials. The occupants of the other cars, which included three children in the Suburban, were not injured.
The SigAlert was canceled shortly before 4 p.m. Anaheim police will investigate the theft of the car.
