Authorities are investigating after a disturbing image of a dog with its muzzle duct-taped shut began circulating on social media on Friday.
The caption under the image post on South Daytona resident Katie Brown's Facebook page read: "This is what happens when you dont shut up!!!."
She followed up that post with this message: "Dont panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasnt barked since... POINT MADE!!!"
Due to the influx of calls and emails it's received, the city of South Daytona posted numerous updates on the case on its Facebook page beginning Friday.
The South Daytona Police are aware of the disturbing Facebook posting and photo by Katie Brown regarding her treatment...

Early Saturday morning, the city said police determined Brown was out of the state during the holiday weekend when the incident occurred.
"We have information to indicate that the dog is OK at this time," according to the city. "However, the police will be contacting this person once she returns to our city. Rest assurred that a full investigation will be done and appropriate action will be taken."
