Charles River plant in Redfield to close

A Charles River Laboratories International Inc. spokeswoman says the company's plant in Redfield will close by the end of the year, leaving 120 people out of work.

Spokesman Amy Cianciaruso told the Pine Bluff Commercial that she could not comment further about the closure. The company told employees on Wednesday that the plant would be closed as part of an effort to streamline its operations.

Charles River Laboratories, based in Wilmington, Mass., says its Redfield location does work in its "preclinical services division." It previously announced a first-quarter write-off of $5.4 million for the Redfield location, which would include $2.2 million for employee severance payments.
