With a little more than eight minutes left on the clock, the Thunder appeared to be destined for yet another close finish, as OKC was tied with the Nets at 85-85.

That’s when Billy Donovan made his smartest coaching move of the night by checking both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook back into the game. Minutes later, the game was out of hand and the Thunder cruised to a 110-99 victory to improve to 10-6 on the season.

Immediately when Durant checked back in, the 6-foot-11 sharpshooter drilled a contested three-pointer, then went back on the other end of the court and pressured Joe Johnson into committing a turnover.

A couple of possessions later, Durant assisted on a Dion Waiters made-jumper, then came back on the next Thunder possession and splashed a three-pointer to extend the OKC lead to nine points.

Durant was on fire, but his partner in crime was playing his role as well.

After the Nets called a timeout to try and slow down the OKC run, Westbrook showed just how great of a facilitator he really is. On the first play Westbrook dished a pretty pass to Serge Ibaka who slammed it home to make the OKC lead 11 points, then assisted Durant on his third three-pointer of the quarter, which erupted the fans inside of Chesapeake Energy Arena. Westbrook then made it three straight possessions with an assist as he connected with Dion Waiters, who swished a three-point basket to give OKC a 13-point lead it’d never relinquish.

In all, the Thunder went on a 25-14 run after Durant and Westbrook checked back in the game in the final frame.

Durant finished with 30 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Westbrook totaled 27 points, 13 assists and six rebounds. Waiters added 16 points off the bench, while Ibaka had a solid second half and finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Brook Lopez led the Nets with 26 points and eight rebounds while Thaddeus Young had 18 points and eight rebounds of his own.

Oklahoma City had 20 fast break points on the night while also shooting 41.7 percent from behind the three-point line. OKC’s 26 assists was tied for its third most in a game this season. This also marks the second straight game the Thunder have held their opponent to less than 100 points.

The Thunder will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Pistons at 7 p.m. That matchup will mark the return of former Thunder guard Reggie Jackson.
