The owner of Greenville’s Huntington & Guerry Electric Co., a century-old electrical contractor, has cashed out.

J.M. “Jimmy” Von Hollen Jr. said he sold his business, which was founded in 1915, to Amteck LLC, a national provider of design/build electrical contracting services based in Lexington, Kentucky.

Terms of the deal, which closed Friday, were not disclosed.

Daren Turner, Amteck’s chief executive officer, said his company has done work in the Carolinas for a decade and sees more ahead.

“This area is booming,” he said. “Over the next five to seven years all the analysts are speaking of all the work that’s coming this direction so we wanted to have an actual office here to show our interest.”

Amteck’s existing client roster in the Upstate includes Michelin North America, ZF Group and Toray Industries, he said.

Turner said buying the 35-employee Huntington & Guerry was a chance to pick up talent in a promising market.

“Our goal is not to change anything with H&G other than add to them,” he said.

Amteck has 470 permanent employees with the acquisition and collects about $100 million a year in revenue, Turner said.

Huntington & Guerry has been located at 230 Buist Avenue since 1951.

Von Hollen, 64, said he’s worked in the business for more than 46 years and will continue. He was president but is now executive director of business development.

“I’ll stay on as long as the Lord gives me the strength to get out because I love it,” Von Hollen said.
