GONE are the days of drab beige offices with nothing more interesting to look at than the water cooler - or at least, that is the case for some lucky workers.

The most innovative offices in the world are revealed

While most people have to put up with sad 70s decor and are lucky to even get a space to eat lunch, others rush to work thanks to their seriously cool work spaces.

There must be a high powered Dr Who fan at the Dropbox office in San Francisco, as they have their very own Tardis - although there is no word on what is actually inside.

Invention land is America’s largest invention factory, so it should be no surprise their offices are very wacky.

One set of desks has a race track whizzing around it, while another office sits in a treehouse which has its own mini lake at the foot of the tree.

At Corus Entertainment’s Toronto headquarters, staff can forget using the stairs - they have a large white slide to get about.

It is not just across the pond that offices have got cool, and Europe has its fair share of exciting workplaces too.

The BBC at MediaCityUK is full of vibrant touches, and has chairs covered in grass and relaxing ‘pods’ to sit in and while away a few hours.

Speaking about the trend for unusual offices, Paula Marshall from Office Depot, said: “Many employers are keen to attract staff back into the office in order to promote collaboration, improve communication and increase productivity.

“It is well-known that increased interaction and socialisation with peers increases job satisfaction and creative ideas sharing, therefore installing a company break room may prove useful in encouraging open communication between staff.

“Similarly, providing a separate environment where employees can take a physical and mental break from their work and enjoy a refreshment or light-hearted conversation with colleagues also improves concentration and cumulative productivity.”

A great office and working space promotes team spirit as Paula explained: “An issue commonly shared within larger businesses is how to create a workspace which promotes a sense of team cohesion and identity.

“This is especially challenging within vast office spaces, where it is often most cost-effective to purchase furniture and interior features en masse, yet which can reduce the visual appeal and atmosphere of the office environment.

“One current trend which can be deployed to assuage this is the adoption of zonal layouts.

“Here, particular departments, teams or ‘zones’ are depicted by subtle changes in colour scheme or the use of subtle design features.

“This zonal solution can also prove useful in an operational sense, signposting employees to the correct point of contact or department.

“Taking the time to consider and implement well-thought out design solutions now is a vital component of making the physical office space a viable and relevant environment that acts as an asset for an organisation, rather than being left behind.”
