TROY, Ala.  — Local officials say forecasters are working to determine whether a tornado collapsed the roof of a southeast Alabama Wal-Mart and injured at least six people.
A strong storm cell passed through Troy, about 50 miles southeast of Montgomery, on Thursday night. Troy Mayor Jason Reeves says the storm hit before 11 p.m., causing significant damage to the Wal-Mart roof and tearing out a wall of a nearby sporting goods store. An 18-wheel truck in the Walmart lot also was overturned.
Reeves says none of the injuries was life-threatening.
Photos on social media show merchandise strewn in the aisles of the store and the ceiling sagging.
A National Weather Service team from Birmingham was in the area Friday to determine whether the storm was a tornado.
