The new iPhone could be missing a very big component. Rumors swirling around the new iPhone 7 state that Apple could be doing away with the 3.5mm headphone jack, according to PC Magazine.

The new iPhone is also suspected to be both smaller and thinner than current models available, Engadget reported. The leaks report that the current headphone jack will be replaced with a Lightning port for audio instead as it will fit better with the new design.

If Apple goes ahead with these supposed plans, the response could be detrimental.

Most devices use the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and therefore most headphones available fit this standard, according to Forbes. However, this move could launch a whole new avenue of revenue for the company. They could go on to sell their own brand of "smart headphones" that only fit their iPhone devices.

This could mean good things for Apple, but it is likely that consumers will be less than pleased.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7 in September of 2016, according to Engadget. That leaves 10 months for Apple to come up with a model that works for both the company and its consumers respectively.
