DirecTV customers can get a free year of wireless service on Sprint for up to five phones, the company announced Friday.

The No. 4 wireless carrier’s offer, valued at $2,160 a year, gives DirecTV customers who switch to the value carrier a free year of unlimited voice and text message with two gigabytes per month of data for up to five lines.

There are some additional costs: $36 activation fee per phone, taxes and possible surcharges.

After the free year is over, Sprint service will cost $50 a month for the first line, $40 for the second and $30 for the other three lines for unlimited talk and text and two gigs of data per line per month.

The carrier will also buy out current contracts with an American Express Reward Card.

Sprint is taking aim at No. 2 carrier AT&T, which acquired DirecTV for $49 billion in July. AT&T is offering deals and discounts on bundled satellite TV and wireless services.
