LOUISVILLE, Ky.--()--With the annual Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan enrollment period set to begin Oct. 15, Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) is focused on delivering affordable health plan options that can help people with Medicare overcome whatever health challenges they may face and live life to the fullest.

One of the most experienced administrators of Medicare health plans, Humana has served Medicare beneficiaries for nearly three decades, and now covers 7.6 million Medicare members in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. That includes approximately 3.2 million Medicare Advantage plan members.

“At Humana, our goal is to make it easy for people to achieve their best health,” said Alan Wheatley, president, Retail Segment at Humana. “With that in mind, Humana strives to provide our members with the personal attention they deserve, connecting them to the care and information that is right to treat their whole health, whatever their health needs. That’s why we believe so many Humana Medicare members stick with us year after year.”

Humana supports its Medicare Advantage members with resources, services and programs tailored to the individual, as well as care managers, nurses, social workers, pharmacists and health coaches, as needed, who provide one-on-one assistance. Humana partners with members, using personalized approaches to help them reach their health goals and get the most from their health plan.

During the Annual Election Period (AEP), which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2015, people with Medicare can choose Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans for the upcoming year. Humana’s 2016 Medicare offerings include a range of Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans. Humana also offers Medicare Supplement plans, which can be purchased outside of the AEP.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage (MA) plans cover all the benefits of Original Medicare, and more. Many Medicare Advantage offerings combine medical and prescription drug coverage into one, easy-to-use plan.

Humana offers a wide choice of Medicare Advantage plans across the country – from HMOs, to local and regional PPOs and Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) plans – designed to meet a variety of needs. For 2016, Humana will expand both its HMO and local PPO offerings into 65 new counties and will offer $0 premium HMO plans in 479 counties.

Many Humana Medicare Advantage plans include:

  • Coverage for Medicare Parts A and B, with predictable copayments and no deductibles
  • Part D prescription drug coverage
  • Maximum out-of-pocket protection (on all Humana Medicare Advantage plans)
  • Programs to improve health and manage chronic conditions
  • Benefits for services that Medicare doesn’t cover such as routine eye exams, preventive dental care and allowances for over-the-counter medications
  • $0 copayment for 90-day supplies of certain generic drugs received through mail-order from Humana Pharmacy

In 2016, Humana will also expand its Member Assistance Program and include it with nearly every Humana Medicare Advantage plan. Introduced with certain plans in 2015, the Member Assistance Program has already helped more than 10,000 Humana members with around-the-clock, confidential guidance on personal issues such as anxiety, stress, grief, loneliness and depression.

In addition, Humana will offer a new telemedicine program in 2016 on a limited number of plans in certain geographic areas. Members whose plan includes the program will be able to consult a doctor by phone, via video or on their mobile device. This program offers convenient access to board certified physicians for non-emergency medical conditions such as cold, flu, and sinus infection.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans

A Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) can help lower prescription drug expenses and protect against higher future costs.

Humana offers a number of PDP options, including the Humana Walmart Rx Plan (PDP), which returns for 2016 with a nationwide monthly premium of $18.40, the lowest PDP premium available in all but four states. The co-branded offering from Humana and Walmart is among Humana’s most popular PDP options, with more than 1.4 million people currently enrolled in the plan. It features:

  • In-store copays as low as $1 on preferred generic drugs at Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Neighborhood Market pharmacies*
  • Mail-order copays as low as $0 on a 90-day supply of most generic drugs filled through Humana Pharmacy
  • Access to a large national network of pharmacies
  • No deductible for most generic drugs, with more than 1,500 generic prescriptions covered by the plan to help plan members save money

Health and well-being resources and programs

Most Humana Medicare Advantage members enjoy access to a number of programs and services that encourage healthy behaviors and foster overall well-being. For example:

  • Rewards from HumanaVitality for setting and achieving health goals, choosing healthy behaviors and completing healthy activities
  • Gym memberships and fitness classes specially designed for Medicare members through the SilverSneakers fitness program
  • Meals delivered directly to members’ homes following a hospitalization by WellDine
