The Renegades brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth inning but Hudson Valley couldn’t complete the comeback in a 6-3 New York-Penn League loss to the Cyclones on Wednesday night at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

The Cyclones scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, added one in the fifth and scored twice more in the eighth to build a 6-1 lead after eight innings. Tucker Tharp and Jeff Diehl hit home runs for Brooklyn.

In the ninth, Cade Gotta, Matt Dacey and Manny Sanchez drew walks in consecutive at-bats to load the bases. Hector Montes followed with a run-scoring groundout and Angel Moreno drove in one run with a single, leaving runners on the corners with two out for Hudson Valley catcher Daniel De La Calle. Brooklyn’s Alex Palsha, who relieved Ruben Reyes after his third straight walk, got De La Calle to strike out swinging to end the game.

Hudson Valley starting pitcher Roel Ramirez allowed four runs on six hits over five innings and took his first loss of the season. Ramirez is 3-1 with a 2.56 ERA through seven starts.

Hudson Valley (19-18) and Brooklyn conclude the three-game, two-city series at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Dutchess Stadium.
