LeEco, the technology giant with financial woes, is facing a lawsuit over unpaid advertising bills.

Sing Tao News Corporation is taking legal action against LeTV for an overdue advertising payment of HK$593,000 plus interest.

In a writ submitted to the District Court on Monday, Sing Tao said LeEco's LeTV Sports Culture Develop (Hong Kong) failed to repay 13 invoices for advertising with its subsidiary publication Headline Daily in violation of the contract.

The plaintiff revealed LeTV failed to settle the bills despite "repeated request and demands," including a letter of demand issued by the company's solicitors on March 14.

"The defendant [LeTV] has acted in breach of the agreements and the plaintiff [Sing Tao] has suffered loss and damages," the writ stated.

LeTV did offer to pay by installments on January 5, but withdrew the proposal the next day.

Sing Tao is claiming a HK$593,000 outstanding amount, damages and interest. LeTV has to decide whether to contest or make an admission within two weeks.
