Table 42 restaurant opens after minor fire
DOVER — Table 42 restaurant reopened for lunch Tuesday after fire fighters quickly controlled a small fire that morning outside the establishment located across the street from Town Hall.
The fire was mostly contained to the outside awning of the restaurant on North Sussex Street, according to a fire fighter at the scene.
No residents in the apartment above the restaurant were displaced, nor were any injuries reported, according to Public Safety Director Daniel R. DeGroot.
Fire fighters responded at 5:26 a.m. to reports of a commercial structure fire and saw smoke coming from the awning above the front door.
After requesting a second alarm, one hose line was stretched and the fire was quickly extinguished.
No extension of the fire into the building was found, DeGroot said. The building suffered minor water and smoke damage.
The awning showed no signs of significant damage as responders inspected it at 6:30 a.m.
The fire is under investigation, but does not appear suspicious, according to DeGroot.
Mutual aid was received from the Picatinny Arsenal and Rockaway fire departments, and St. Clare’s EMS.
The Dover Police Department, Health Department and Building Department also responded to the scene.
Police blocked vehicle traffic North Sussex Street between East Clinton and West Blackwell streets during the response, but the sidewalks were quickly re-opened to foot traffic
