Car review: 2016 Ford Edge Titanium crossover SUV

The Californian

Recently I tested the 2016 Ford Edge crossover SUV and really, really enjoyed it.

2016 Ford Edge Titanium

As some of you might recall, I have been on a Ford kick recently. The quality and fit and finish of the vehicles that Ford is turning out is impressive and is something to be celebrated.

This 5-passenger midsize crossover remains offered in four trim lines -- the entry-level SE, the mid-level SEL, the he high-end Titanium and the top of the line Sport.

The V-6 powerplant of this handsome vehicle is turbocharged and doesn't disappoint -- either from a cold flat start to passing that semi on the freeway.

Mated to a decent and amiable 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission, my Edge boasted a solid 315 horsepower and 350 pound-ft of torque. My tester came with full-time all-wheel drive and felt solid on both paved and unimproved roads.

My tester came with 20 inch alloy wheels and leather upholstery with completely adjustable power seating. The cabin was laden down with a variety of options, some of which have some actual fun utility -- including a nicely laid out media-navigation screen, great Sony 390-watt sound system featuring 12 speakers, full satellite radio and dual-zone climate control air conditioning.

The vehicle offers in all renditions 73.4 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the rear seatbacks folded.

My tester got decent gas mileage -- 17 combined, 25 in the city and 20 on the highway.

I realize that I've already given away my recommendation on the Edge. Sorry. But the Edge is a truly well designed and well built vehicle that does a lot of things really well.

My 2016 Ford Edge Titanium, as equipped, came with a price tag of about $39,000 although this line's base model comes in at about $10,000 less.

As always, look around and test out the competition. But I'd save the Edge for last -- I think you might just buy one when you get back to the dealership from your test drive.
