A Jack in the Box employee was shot Sunday night when two men pulled into a San Fernando Valley drive-through and tried to rob him, police said.

The 25-year-old worker was struck once in the upper body by gunfire and was taken to a hospital, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department. He was in stable condition.

Police say the man’s ordeal started about 11:05 p.m. at the fast-food restaurant in the 20800 block of Roscoe Boulevard, which borders Winnetka and Canoga Park.

He was working the drive-through pick-up window when two men in a black Nissan pulled in, police said. The men pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the employee and demanded money.

But when the employee fumbled with the cash, the men shot him and drove off, NBC-TV reported. They fled without taking the cash.

Investigators are looking for the men and will be reviewing surveillance video footage.
