Teledyne Technologies Acquires Carlsbad-Based Oceanscience Group Ltd.

This is the second recent acquisition of a local company by Teledyne

The Oceanscience Group Ltd., a Carlsbad manufacturer of marine sensor platforms and unmanned surface vehicles, was acquired by Teledyne Technologies Inc., the buyer said.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. This is the second recent acquisition of a local company by Teledyne. In September, it purchased Bolt Technology Corp., the parent company of San Diego-based Seabotix, a maker of miniature, remotely-operated underwater vehicles used for defense and scientific applications. Teledyne paid about $171 million for Bolt, which is based in Norwalk, Conn.

Teledyne CEO Robert Mehrabian said the Oceanscience acquisition broadens the company’s portfolio of remotely-operated marine systems. “Oceanscience adds unmanned surface vessels to our line of profiling floats, battery-powered autonomous underwater vehicles and market-leading autonomous gliding vehicles,” Mehrabian said.

Oceanscience has 30 employees.

Claiborne Advisors Inc. acted as the financial advisors to Oceanscience.
