Hazardous materials responses at 2 Easton locations
By Cody Shepard, The Enterprise
State police examined a bottle bomb inside a backpack Tuesday afternoon on Summer Street in Easton, the Brockton Enterprise reported Tuesday.
A police officer driving on Summer Street Tuesday saw a man drop a backpack near a tree. When he questioned him, the man said there were hazardous materials inside, Easton Police Chief Gary Sullivan said.
Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said there is a bottle bomb inside the backpack. The bottle builds pressure as it sits and explodes if opened, Partridge said.
The backpack is currently sitting on top of a marked police cruiser as the State Police Bomb Squad suits up.
The man lives on Pheasant Lane, so firefighters are working to determine if the bomb was made inside the house or if there are any hazardous materials inside.
Emergency personnel responded Tuesday afternoon to the area of Bay Road at Summer Street and a house on Pheasant Lane for reported related events.
They were on the scene about 12:15 p.m.
Firefighters and police on Pheasant Lane were wearing surgical face masks near the home and when entering it.
A woman drove up to the roadblock on Pheasant Lane and got out of her car, screaming, "That's my house, that's my house."
Firefighters entered the home with her.
Easton Animal Control arrived on Pheasant Lane, but left shortly afterward without removing any animals.
National Grid and Columbia Gas are also on the scene.
