Trina Solar Panels To Power Tea Plantations

Trina Solar signed an agreement last week to supply 51 MW of its solar panels to help generate power in tea plantations in China.

The deal was struck with Yunnan Electric Power Design Institute, a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd..

The project, a first for tea plantations in China, will utilize more than 43,500 of Trina Solar’s TSM-255 modules and 154,284 of the Company’s TSM-260 modules.

Both models are dual glass frameless panels, suited to conditions such as heavy humidity and pesticide use.

The modules will be delivered by the third quarter of this year.

“Our dual glass modules have been very well-received by the market since its launch, and I am confident that it will provide the durability, reliability, and efficiency that is required for this project to succeed,” said Zhiguo Zhu, COO and President of Module Business Unit of Trina Solar.

In other recent news from Trina, the company announced it was among the first module manufacturers to have received UL1500V certification from Underwriters Laboratories (“UL”). The certification was awarded for Trina’s TSM-PE05A and TS-PE14A polycrystalline solar panels.

Trina says the higher system voltage modules allow for PV systems to be designed with longer string lengths and as a result, reduces the number of components in the balance of the system (BOS) and overall system costs, while boosting system performance by minimizing system losses.

According to Australian PV – Technology and Brands Report 2013, Trina Solar panels are the number one choice for modules used in solar power systems in Australia. Trina offers standard 10-year workmanship and 25-year linear power output warranty on all its modules.

The company shipped 3.66 GW of solar panels globally last year and since 2007, more than 11GW of Trina panels have been shipped.

The company was founded in 1997 and originally operated as a system integrator.

Last year, Trina was ranked no.1 in Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (SVTC) Solar Scorecard. SVTC initiated the Solar Scorecard in 2010 to promote increased solar industry transparency with regard to environmental and social justice practices. Trina has ranked no.1 for four out of the 5 years it has participated in the initiative.

Trina Solar is a vertically integrated producer, making silicon ingots, wafers and cells as well as assembling panels.
